Best Tips for Restoring Leather Car Seats

Best Tips for Restoring Leather Car Seats

Lather car seats are a huge investment; therefore, it is of vital importance that you take care of this valuable asset. Leather is even though a durable material, it is still susceptible to wear and tear, as well as staining. Leather car seats are especially exposed to the elements of the atmosphere like sunlight, heat, and dirt along with excessive usage that can lead to drying and fading if the leather is not taken care of properly.

This drying and fading can take away the elegance of your car seats, making them look tacky and worn out. Therefore, regular cleaning and conditioning is a must if you wish to maintain the allure of your car seats. In this guide, we will tell you how you can take care of your car seats and restore them if they sustain any damage.

Cleaning and Restoring Leather Car Seats

Make Sure that You Have Real Leather Car Seats

Before doing anything, make sure that the seats of your car are made up of real leather. Even though many car seats give off the appearance of leather when in fact they are made up of vinyl or what most manufacturers refer to as “leatherette”. As these are synthetic materials, they do not dry out like real leather and hence do not require conditioning. Another aspect that you have to confirm is whether your car seats are coated or not, as it is a very common occurrence in car interiors.

In the beginning, when coated leather is new, it does not require any conditioning. However, as time progresses the coating wears off. When that happens, you must condition your car seats every 6 months or so with Whites Pearl Leather Conditioner. In case you are not sure if your car seats are made of real leather or faux leather, you can do a patch test using Whites Pearl Leather Conditioner. If the seats adsorb the conditioner that means that they are made of genuine leather and are likely not coated.

Clean With a Premade Leather Cleaner

If you want to be thorough with your leather car seats, it would be best to first remove them, however, if it is not possible, you can start the restoration process by thoroughly cleaning your seats. Make sure to remove dust and grime from every nook and cranny. You can use a vacuum cleaner to dust off your leather, and then thoroughly clean it with a leather cleaner. Once the cleaning is done, you can condition your car seats with Whites Pearl Leather Conditioner.

Instantly you will begin to notice a change in your leather car seats. They will appear supple, and glossy and will shine with a richer color. Once you have thoroughly applied the conditioner, leave the seats to dry for 24 hours.

Reapplication, If Necessary

If your car seats are extremely dry and worn out, it is best to reapply the conditioner. Just like the previous step, apply a small amount of Whites Pearl Leather Conditioner on a lint-free cloth and use that cloth to massage the conditioner on the surface of the leather. After the application, allow the seats to dry naturally for 24 hours.
